andy, we´re just back from sardinia, i had asked for help on the 9th of jan, but got no replys... so now as i say we´re back and i can reply to yours! we stayed in sassari and alghero, both on the northwest side; alghero is a very old beautiful town some of which is within old city walls, food is very cheap the the beaches absolutely stunning, big big port; sassari the 2nd largest of the cities of sardinia, very old also, mostly cobbled streets - no high heels! very interesting but not much for little children. not sure if you have a car but bus´s are very cheap, 57 cents from the airport to alghero, we got charged 25euros by a cab! trains are clean and not too fast but cheap also. hope this helps a little, have a good trip, we will be back to sardinia thats forsure. marian
